Decreasing is also part of the shaping of a project because it allows you to make your work tighter where you need it.
You have to do nothing more than skip a chain and work directly the next one, so you’ll decrease the number of stitches you had.
Even here, if realized at the beginning or at the end of a line, decreases will give an oblique shape to your work; if realized in the middle it creates a downward rounded effect.
